The Good Cents Program was founded in 2004 by the Board of Directors of the Arizona Chapter of NAIOP in order to give property owners and their customers a voice in the public policy issues that affect their industry. The immediate goal is to reduce the existing inequities in Arizona's tax policy and build a strong base to support business property tax reduction and oppose new taxes or fees.
Good Cents is funded by voluntary contributions made by business property owners or managers who contribute one cent per square foot, per year, for each square foot of office or industrial space they own or manage. The contribution may be passed through to the tenant as part of the building's operating expenses. After all, tenants have just as much at stake in this fight as owners or managers do since they are the ones ultimately paying the tax bill.
Contributions are also welcomed from those who care about these issues regardless of their ownership of property. A penny per square foot is relatively insignificant compared to the cost of property tax but collectively these "good cents" can make a big difference in the effort to reduce the property tax on office and industrial buildings.
