Welcome to the Arizona Chapter of NAIOP (National Association of Industrial and Office Properties), the sixth largest trade organization in Arizona. As the voice of commercial real estate, NAIOP provides its 16,000+ members in 55 chapters throughout the US and Canada unparalleled networking opportunities, a forum for continuing education, and a platform for advocating effective public policy. In Arizona, our membership base consists of more than 750 of the top developers, owners, investors, brokers, architects, general contractors, and other professionals in the real estate industry.
The Arizona Chapter of NAIOP plays host to some of the finest networking events in Arizona. The event slate for 2008 includes seven networking opportunities with several premier galas including the Best of NAIOP 2007, Night at the Fights, Comedy Night, and our annual golf tournament. Headliners such as Jay Leno and Dana Carvey have made previous Comedy Nights must-attend events! This year’s Comedy Night will feature Daryl Hammond, a star of Saturday Night Live and popular comedian. Recently, the Arizona Chapter of NAIOP took top billing in the Special Events category at the 2008 National Chapter Merit Awards Ceremony for our 2006 Comedy Night submission with comedian Jay Leno.
Professional development is an important part of NAIOP. We host several educational events annually, including the annual Bus Tour and Trend Watch. The Bus Tour is a virtual reality experience, mixed with an exhibit fair allowing our many members to showcase their work. Trend Watch is our premier “forecasting” event and will include a December versus September time slot. Many of the events throughout the year focus on education, but as important, provide networking opportunities for all members.
Throughout the year, we also keep an eye on giving back to the communities that provide us the opportunity to attain success in our individual businesses. NAIOP is constantly planning new ways to better our community. Current and future functions will empower our membership with the tools to raise funding for various charitable organizations. On April 17th, NAIOP will host our first ever Casino Night at Scottsdale Stadium. Proceeds from the fundraising event will benefit the Foundation for Blind Children.
NAIOP has taken the lead on political action aimed at promoting sustainable economic development and improving the general business climate in the state. Through our Good Cents initiative, we have raised significant funding and built the necessary infrastructure to proactively effectuate property tax reform for commercial real estate in Arizona. Those vital efforts will not only strengthen our existing business community but will aid the state of Arizona in its continued quest to attract corporations and high salary positions.
As we move through a changing political landscape that culminates in a general election in November, the question is really quite simple: “What role do you want to play in one of the top real estate trade organizations in Arizona?” As the late Will Rogers said, “Even if you’re on the right track, you’ll get run over if you just sit there.”
We hope your questions will be answered after exploring this site and by linking to the national NAIOP website at www.NAIOP.org. If there is anything else you would like to know about NAIOP, please feel free to contact me, any member of our Board of Directors or our Executive team, Tim Lawless, President and Katrina DeBaker, Vice President.
